Fashion Inspiration!!!
You don't even have to be a frequent reader of this blog to know how much I love to dig in the fashion archives and check out past shows. It's a proven fact that everything old is new, and most of the time, they did it better the first go-round, so I like to stick with the good shit. Check out these recently unearthed and loved up shows.

Calvin Klein Sp/03
How clean, how beautifully spare! This collection was neat, it was functional, and i'll be damned if that's not sexy. The models didn't look super dead and skinny and sick either, which is good to look at...At some point it's like, "Damn, but do you have 80lbs on a 5'10 frame?"
For Day/Work:

As Well As Evening/Cocktails:
Gucci Sp/03
This collection was super sexy, just like all Tom Ford collections! I understand a straightforward approach, if you want to be modern, don't skip around the park to do it, just be modern, if you'd like to be sexy, just show me some leg-poitrine (cleavage)-a shoulder, and be sexy!!! How clever to draw from known sources of sexual interest (Geisha's, Punk, Disco Queens) and give us a modern interpretation of their known sexiness...
For Day/Work:

And Cocktails/Ladies Night:

And Last but Certainly not Least:
Chanel Sp/03
If cleanliness appeals to you, but you're not so much about the spare, empty canvas Calvin presents, and overt sexiness doesn't appeal to you like it does to me, try Chanel. This collection was dancing, if I am even allowed to type that as a member of Cynics International. But seriously, it's about fun, the chance to get springy, stroll around Paris, eat Maccaroons, all that stuff. I can say that youth is all over this, but you already knew that right?

For Day/Work:

And Evening/Heading for the Disco

Mami's back!
Do you remember when Eve was killin the game, when she was on top and wreckin shop on all the other female artists out there? Well it's time for her to reclaim her throne, plus, who's taken her space since she left? Nobody...That's a sad, sad state of affairs.

The video is hot, Tambourine was hot on it's own...plus the colors are ill, the clothing is ill....

And Her Lipgloss Is Poppin'!

The Black Folks Guide To Appreciating Amy Winehouse
-According To Sista Toldja

1) Thou Shalt Not Hail Amy Winehouse As The New "Queen of Soul"- Do not compare Winehouse to icons such as Aretha Franklin, Minnie Ripperton and Erykah Badu. She ain't the one. And "The One" should be a sister. Amy spent years listening to these artists to capture their sound. What she has is a skillful balance of natural talent and reverent mimicry.

2) Thou Shalt Not Use Winehouse As The Example By Which To Criticize Black Singers- Questlove notably broke this rule by stating that Winehouse's 2006 album is the record "Lauryn wishes she had". How fucking dare he? L-Boogie obviously has some issues, but at least she's not running around missing teeth and gargling with Henny. She's got three baby Marleys, at that! A feat so many of us wish we could accomplish (well, at least I wish I could. Holla at me, Steven). I like Questlove, but shit. He needs to get off of these White girl's nuts! Anyway, don't complain about the lack of real Black female artists in the same breath you praise Winehouse. It's not that White girls have come out and shown us that they can do Soul better than we can. It's that White women like Winehouse and Joss (VOMIT!!!!) Stone are considered novel and recieve the sort of hype and support that sisters don't. The industry doesn't make stars of the Amel Larrieuxs, N'Dea Davenports, Georgia Anne Muldrows, N'Dambis, Ledisis, Greniques, Davinas, Jaguar Wrights, etc, etc, ETC. But that's not to say they don't exist! Understand, it was decided that Ciara and Amy Winehouse would be stars and that Keke Wyatt would not.

3) Thou Shalt Not Date Amy Winehouse- Brothers, it's one thing to make us feel bad by running around with these Heather-Feather ass, super Nordic White women. But when you go and grab one who is praised for her near-Blackness, that shit hurts. Growing up in Chicago, I saw soooo many bohemian, b-girl type White women, rocking yucky looking "dreads", big silver necklaces and Adidas. Basically, they were low-rent versions of me. Except for one major difference: Black men love THEM. Come on, y'all. It's 2007. Just say no. Besides, she looks like Skeletor.

4) Thou Shalt Keep It In Context- Remember, Winehouse is a Jewish girl from the UK. She is NOT from the slums of Brooklyn, the streets of Detroit, nor the dirt roads of Georgia. Anything she says that sounds reminicient of those places was LEARNED, word.

If it's Bronzed, I'm down.

Summer time always begs the question, will I look good strolling down anyone's beach? Well? Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, so here's some drool worthy video to give you a reason to jump in the gym, or on the tanning bed, or into your suit.

It's not really about being skinny, but damn, can I just get toned up? We gotta hit the gym ladies!!

Let's Frug Honey:

The Big Finish is the best part...

This is the history lesson of the week.

Bob Fosse was a bad man when it came to choreography, he's responsible for
Cabaret, Chicago, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, and, Sweet Charity, which is where this piece came from.

His work is dope because it was innovative for the time, and continues to inspire dancers to this day; Where have you seen those dresses before, Who's good for a ponytail toss at least once in her set? He'd surprise us with new lighting techniques, gave us subtext when we were dancing, and taught us how to dance like we were full of feeling. Truly a fabulous guy.

See I told'ya we'd be talking about men more here....Dammit.

MAMA CLOTHING SPRING COLLECTION

Mama is showin her ass! Here's one of my favorite from the new collection. Inspired by my second favorite pop artist Roy Lichenstien. I copped the Mama's Mondrian shirt last year and wasn't a fan of the fit or quality, so let's hope she's cleaned these up a bit. Check the rest of the line out here

Extolling the virtues of The Brown:
This post has no real purpose, other than to say how awesome Brown (Black/Latina/Middle Eastern/Asian) girls are. There's not enough of us getting together doin shit, let's fix that.

A few reasons why we're awesome:
1.We're hella talented, whether it be in the academic realm or the entertainment field.
2.Our culture is thick, and usually written in our faces.
3.We got the shiny skin, plus we come in all colors!

That's enough gushing for now right? Just sayin', I've been fussing with where I fit lately, and I know it's awesome to see people who look like me doing shit, so I thought you guys would too.

Plus, the ladies up there are super beautiful.

I would like to be a lady who lunches,
With small finger sandwiches, tea, all that stuff. And i'd be obsessed with Chanel Suits...Sort of like I am now, but it would make sense because i'd own a few.

"Darling, just charge it."

I'd say that all the fucking time. Seriously.

Absolutely Fabulous!!!
I'm watching "Funny Face", It's a gorgeous little ugly duckling movie of course, but this number is totally my favorite. Check out how Kay Thompson and Fred Astaire rock this song! She's moving like a goddess, singing loud and looks like she's fancy free. I love her right now.

You should check this out, and then get back to me.
